What are the benefits of Bored Piling?

Bored piling is one of the best methods to transfer the infrastructure loads to the mudrock. The following are various reasons why they are best:

Pipe of different sizes, thicknesses, and lengths can be installed-

Different projects have unique needs and requirements so, customization is crucial. Bored piles have the flexibility to modify the sizes, lengths, and thickness of the piles according to the project’s requirements. Heavy project infrastructure requires thicker piles and that of long sizes whereas light projects can be handled well with less thick and medium length pipes. Bored piles can also be cast in various shapes if there is any requirement for special shapes. Many people think that shape does not have any effect on the board but that is not true. Contractors decide what shape will best for the project while making the project plan because it has a huge effect on infrastructures. The most common shape of bored piling is Circular shapes piles.

Precast to required specifications-

The precasting helps you to customize piles in your way and brings extra strength to piles. Precast piles reduce the waste generation on the site. They also reduce the cost since making it on the site takes some extra factor into account to charge.

The most important thing for precast piles is that it can withstand groundwater effectively. Then why Bored Piling is used more than precasting?

In bored piling, groundwater always acts as an obstruction to process and that is the reason precasting is preferred. But Precasting is not generally available in every other process and hence the bored piling method is majorly used for this advantage.

Bored piles produce lower vibrations and are good resistor against moisture and seasonal variations-

Relatively lower vibrations produced in bored piles do not disturb the adjacent pile. Vibrations are harmful to the soil, it loosens the adjacent piles and disturbs the soil arrangements, making it difficult for construction. Also, the vibrations disturb the adjacent built pile infrastructure. The most affected element in the construction is vibrations, that is the reason people want to have a lower vibrating method to install bored piles.

Easy to install in the restricted area-

Sometimes you do not have access to the wider area and installing piles may seem difficult in narrow areas. But one can install the bored piles in a narrower area. This is a unique feature of bored piles that makes it stand out from the crowd.

Techniques used in bored piling-

Techniques are chosen based on the soil and site report. Different conditions of soil need different techniques for bored piling. Few of the techniques are mentioned here-

Continuous flight auger (CFA)-

The CFA piles are drilled continuously in one go. This method is suitable for the hard and stable rocks which do not require any casing. The mechanism consists of the auger which is screwed deep into the ground. The auger is made to reach the required depth in one go and the auger is removed and disassembled and concrete is hollowed down to the borehole. The vibration and noise are minimal in such an execution method. The technology does not produce shocks.

Freefall weight Installation –

The Freefall weight Installationundergoes a casing in a single length of 6m using free-fall weight. Freefall weight weights reduce the friction between the soil and the casing and thus making it easier to work with. You need a suitable and quite stable soil condition for such a casing method. The contractors and subcontractors need to check the site report thoroughly before using this method. Usually, the vibrations never add strength to the piles but here in this method vibration has an added advantage to concrete strength.

Vibratory hammer installation-

The Vibratory hammer installation of the casing makes use of the external induced vibration. Due to the vibration, the friction between the soil and casing is reduced and it penetrates deep into the ground with the weight of the hammer and its own.

This method is not used as the method produces a lot of vibration due to the oscillator and hence disturbing the bed soil. The soil condition needs to be checked before using this method. If the soil is much denser it is not possible to use this method as it cannot break down the dense soil and even if tries the vibration produced by this method will disturb the adjacent build-up structures. The method works on the principle of the centrifugal force too.

Major advantage- It is fast and saves much of your time as compared to the other methods.

Hydraulic casing installation-

The process makes use of the rotator or the oscillator to reduce the skin friction between the soil and the case. It induces the vertical downwards force on the casing by the weight of its own and the oscillator.

The machine used the vertically downward force of itself and the casing to penetrate the casing consisting of various sections that are to connect and bolts with each other during the process.
